Better chance of Carter getting injured so Dubas can place him on LTIR.

I could be wrong, but my understanding of the "35+ contract" is that the full cap hit counts against the salary cap even if the player is waived and sent to the AHL, is placed on LTIR, or retires.

but if that's true then i'd hope for that (not in a malicious way) but jeff carter is the guy to play through injury and i doubt he'd ever allow anything of the sort... like he's so big and slow theres only a few players in the league that could even hit him hard enough to injure him and even then what are the chances it would be season/career-ending....

From CF's CBA section:

"What is a 35-plus contract?
A contract is designated a 35+ contract if the players age on the first year of the contract is 35 or older (as of June 30 prior to the year of the effective contract).

35+ contracts that are two years in length or longer and:
1. Have a signing bonus in the 2nd or later year, OR
2. Are front-loaded
Will not benefit from a reduced cap hit regardless of the players location of play, termination, retired status, or a buyout. This rule was introduced by the NHL to prevent teams from backloading contracts past when the player was expected to retire. An exception to this rule is that a team will receive a $100,000 cap hit reduction if the player is on the 2nd or later year of the contract and assigned to the minors"

Both teams decline pretty easily. Not nearly enough value for the pieces you're trying to acquire.
A suggestion for pit that doesn't include the highly unlikely Carter nmc waive, Taylor Raddysh. He can play up and down the lineup and has a crazy cheap contract. All it'd cost is a first round pick.

Yeah for sure, he’s one of the players I’ve been looking at for version 2
