Description
After another season of tanking, the Sharks will want to show some sort of progress to climb their way out of the dredges of the Pacific.

Their needs this season:
- 2024 1st to be as high as possible (hopefully Celebrini will be in teal, but NHL lottery has never played nice with the Sharks so I do see them more realistically getting Eiserman or Catton)
- An additional late 1st, which will likely have to come from trading away another piece to a playoff-bound team.

Next season:
- Continue blooding in the youngsters, and have Bystedt start his career with the Cuda, with frequent call-ups in the cards pending on his progress.
- No need to trade Couture until Smith and whoever is the Sharks' 1st are ready for NHL action. Unless Celebrini is a Shark, a Couture trade would likely occur on 24-25's TDL.
- Get some help in the Top 6, ideally from teams that have had success. Stephenson from Vegas and Reinhart from Florida stand out as guys who could really help out San Jose's top 6 next year.
- Get our blueline's groove back with defense and offensive contributions. Pesce's is the dream D of this upcoming UFA market, but Dumba would probably be more willing to join the Sharks at their stage. To add Top 4 help defensively, Sharks should target Brodie from Toronto.
- The goaltending has been atrocious for the Sharks for years now, and I don't see Kahkonen as the answer. This is an area the Sharks should be willing to break the bank as a 1A has been a need for the franchise even when they were firmly a playoff team in the past. Samsonov is the standout target in my book.

It's going to be a long, long time.before San Jose starts to show any upward progress on the season rankings. 12th best prospect pool in the NHL (post 2023 draft) is not something that gets fixed in just one more draft. Some interesting younger pieces added, but no where near enough to start climbing the ladder.

The kings have maintained relevance with injections of youth from outside. The knights have a number of years left before souring, the Oilers will be in the mix as long as McDavid is around, Calgary just locked into their core. Maybe you can claw ahead of Vancouver if Petey leaves or Seattle, but the Ducks are a few years ahead in the rebuild.

Sharks are going to be bottom of the Pacific for the next 3-5 years.

7-12 depending on the website!
And potentially 3 1sts with one being top 2 and 4 picks in the top 35 goes a long way towards improving that, plus 3 of their D prospects were hurt last year and a year of them developing will improve the prospect pool rankings a lot.

Sharks will have the most cap space they have ever had in 24 and 25 as well!

Grier has made some really good moves and been really smart so far so I’m interested in seeing how he does with money to spend!

I don’t care about who is ahead of us just look at NJD and Buffalo, both have a hell of a lot in front of them but still climbing up the rankings!

I have a feeling in 2-3 years sharks will be out of the basement and maybe not playoffs but getting closer or at least close enough to make a run.

You've committed the cardinal sin of buying out a player and not using the cap space. If you're going to leave yourself $10m in space you're just hurting the team in the future by buying out Vlasic.

I think the trades aren't insane, but it isn't likely that all of them get made. I could see Barabonov or Duclair sticking around, and I don't like paying a goalie big money to play for a team that will still be bad.

New Jersey and Buffalo were also very bad for a very long time and racked up multiple top 5 picks. San Jose unfortunately sent Stutzle to Ottawa, so the rebuild starts with Eklund. 2024 is also a relatively weak draft compared to 2023. Buckle up man, it's going to be a minute.

24 has a strong top 4/5 thins out after but there are a few solid D with upside that can be had in the middle, hope is we move a few picks to 25 which is stronger.

24 top 2 and 25 top 4 would go a long way.
