Maybe I am just being optimistic, but I think it does, at least to an extent that can allow the team to compete and rest Demko enough to be solid in the playoffs if they make it.
Desmith is a decent backup, and has shown the ability to at least hold water over ~25 games, which is what we need from him. He can also probably hold down the fort better than Martin or Silovs could if Demko got hurt for several weeks.
He is at the very least a greater certainty than Martin and Silovs, and I think having that is valuable to allow Silovs a year as 'the guy' out here in Abby.
