Description
I'm looking at an alternative to the Tanev trade proposed by rangerandislesfan earlier.
Tanev would be a good option beside Rielly in the top 4 given his defensive shutdown profile.
Canucks are rebuilding, so a young, promising Connor Carrick is a good add as RHD , Leivo is a big NHL ready LW who can score, Rosen was Holm's partner in the SHL and that may be an attractive Defense tandem for the Canucks. A 2nd pick rounds out a compelling rebuild package.
On the Leafs defense lineup, I've moved Hainsey down to 3rd pair beside Dermott.
On the forward lines, I've moved Kapanen onto the left side beside Naz and left Martin and Fehr as the press box crew along with Marincin. A place is waiting for Liljegren on RHD when he is ready.

This would be a great trade for the Leafs as Tanev is probably the most under-rated quality shut down defenceman in the NHL who has been playing on a terrible team.

Although Benning has wanted a 1rst round pick in the top 5 of draft for Tanev he might bite on this deal with the quality of the young players being offered.

Hey Bill, I like the genesis of the trade and the reasoning behind it. I do think Tanev to be a good fit. Couple of considerations I would like to bring forth. The first has to do with Rosen. Certainly contractually there is not, but I wonder if during the courtship of these European FA, there isn't at least some assurances as to movement. It would appear very appealing to come to an organization with both AHL and NHL teams based in the same city, carrying a number of in this case Swedish players, for purposes of language, accommodation, restaurants etc. (I believe between the Leafs and Marlies there are 6). I wonder if moving along a player that was just signed before their first season would be fair game. Would the Canucks be just as satisfied with Andrew Nielsen?
I want to move Kapanen up in the line up as much as anyone. The concept Babcock used in setting up the Kadri line last year was to create a "match up line" (pest type) which should never be confused with a defensive checking line. Komorov definitely fits that bill, not sure that Kappy brings those same qualities. I think that to use Kapanen properly it may take a move in our top 6. I also am not sure that Babcock doesn't feel he still wants Martin in the line up nightly.
Just a couple of thoughts, interested to see what you think as to how it might apply to the solid trade proposed? Too deep for an early Sunday morning?

Hey Doug,
I thought about that as far as Rosen, I'm just assuming (could be wrong here) that he would find Vancouver appealing as well. Playing with his ex-partner from the SHL should be a plus. With the rebuild, he may have more opportunities there. All this assumes Benning wants Rosen and I don't know the answer, he may prefer another prospect. The main idea was to exchange three good prospects who are NHL-ready or nearly ready for Tanev. Leafs will be very reluctant to give up any first round picks.
I started with a top 9 spot for Kap, much like the one Connor Brown and Nylander got for much of last year. If he proves he is ready, hopefully he finds a higher spot, especially with JVR and Komarov UFA's after this year and the Leivo logjam resolved by the trade.
I expect Babcock still prefers using Komarov on Nazem's wing and Martin on the 4th line to help protect the kids but I personally think he doesn't contribute enough on the hockey side to keep a spot now. Babs can bring him into the lineup against certain teams if he likes.

Don't disagree at all, just going off of last year's configurations. I'm of the belief that Komorov is the prototypical 4th liner, and as such may be the one veteran Leafs look to resign although may need to take a haircut. (Grundstrom similar type player) Along with you on perhaps even moving Martin. . . .but think that the one thing Leafs are limited in, is size and toughness.

Suggestions like this make me angry.

Quantity doesn't overdue quality.

I know u Toronto fans love Tanev but giving us career AHLers and a 2nd isn't fair. Look up tanevs shot suppression stats it's unreal, him and Reilly would be an awesome pair. But u gotta give up more.
