Believe me, I want a bigger return for EK65 too, but everything I'm reading says that's unrealistic. Going rate seems to be a 1st, a pick, and a cap dump to fit his salary, with at least $3M retained. The main benefit to trading EK65 is getting out of his cap hit, especially in the last two years of his contract when the Sharks may start to be competitive again and will need the cap space to keep young players coming off their entry level contracts and to acquire some free agents.
well then i gotta say you're more realistic than most sharks fans on here. i agree that's a very fair ask, but from the outside looking in it seems like grier has fumbled the bag once again, please correct me if you feel differently tho.
meier was the hottest commodity going into the tdl, grier seemingly tried to hold out with an insane ask until finally caving at the last minute for a pretty meh return. like the return was good enough but seemed like the type of one he coulda gotten from the start.
now he's overplayed his hand with karlsson too. four teams had serious interest, and now there's only one team left. toronto filled the gap with klingberg, carolina did it with deangelo, and it seems like seattle are done making moves. it could easily just be growing pains for a new gm in the league like so many others have had, but from my personal pov it's been a pretty bad start to the rebuild for grier in terms of selling off assets
