I don't see the Rangers mathing that. They aren't in a good cap situation and signing an undeperforming player to over 4M (meaning they would likely have to do some moves in order to be cap compliant) will be hard for them, plus if the Preds structure the contract to have a maximum QO...

Now... Does this make the Preds a play off team? They sure are young and rely a lot on Saros, but with a gradual progress of players like Lafreniere, Evangelista, Glass or Parsinen, why not?

Rangers would match because they'll get a 2nd buyout window due to Scanlin's arbitration, and they can actually get cap credit this year for a Goodrow buyout, which means they can match up to ~ 6 million OS on Lafreniere
