Description

The chaos surrounding the Calgary Flames may offer an opportunity for the Maple Leafs to adjust their roster by adding two high-power rentals who might be easier and cheaper to re-sign than William Nylander. In any event, I bet both Flames would rather spend 2023-2024 in Toronto than in Calgary.

The basic theory here is that a 13-forward, 8-defenseman roster is not merely workable but advisable in light of the veteran defensemen who might benefit from the occasional night off, particularly on back-to-backs. The waivers-exempt status of 7 forwards on the non-roster (not including the recovering Rodion Amirov) makes this approach feasible, in my view.

The prospect pool remains intact, especially prime youngsters Fraser Minten and Topi Niemela (whom I see traded in a lot of Toronto ACGMs) and two picks in the first 48 of this draft should help restock the farm system.

looks reasonable..aside from just Hannifin, the D isnt upgraded much..I dont think Flames throw in 2nd but that trade looks fair for both sides..all the FA are signed at fair market value (from reports) unlike a lot of the teams Ive seen on here..Im excited to see what Brad Treliving pulls off...lets go already

If that's the case then obviously, this wouldn't work because the whole idea is that there's at least as much chance that both Toffoli and Hanifin sign as Nylander -- that's why Toronto gives up the better player.

I think that with the limited amount of cap space, this is about the best upgrade one can hope for . . .
