Description
Overall Vision - Try to rebalance the defense while minimizing the growing pains.

Disclaimer - Tried not exploring draft pick trades as I feel like that is where the biggest discrepancy in value around here is.

Trade with Pittsburgh:
Pros for St. Louis: Opens room for Perunovich
Better allocates cap space during transitional phase.
Fills middle 6 center hole, allowing Buch/Kapanen to stay on wing.

Cons for St. Louis: High probability of neutering powerplay
Granlund is a less productive player than Krug in terms of offensive output.
Opens revolving door of call up defenseman if/when Perunovich gets injured.
Retention for 4 years to balance out the cap for each team.

Pros for Pittsburgh: Adds high-end PP weapon.
Allows more flexibility for bottom 6 changes.
Cap Neutral move with Granlund without dumping.
Adds guy with playoff experience to the backend.
If Crosby era ends with current contract - Retention on Krug for 2 years at a 2.75m cap hit could return asset.

Cons for Pittsburgh: Krug's term is longer than Granlund, still not a fantastic contract.
Krug is injured frequently.
May still need to add defensive minded player to backend and will need to redo bottom 6.

Seattle trade: Very meaningless, just put Bortuzzo in a better situation. Good PK depth. Picked Seattle due to Bortuzzo's friendship with Schwartz. Worst case scenario, Bortuzzo is a healthy scratch here or sent down if we need younger guys up.

Ottawa Trade
Pros for St. Louis: Add desperately needed top end LD to slide rest of defense down.
Kyrou is high-risk high-reward player, makes the team play more simple.

Cons for St. Louis - Kyrou is a legitimate offensive weapon. Removal really neuters offense.
Chabot may not be perfect fit if they plan to keep Parayko in a heavy-heavy defensive usage.
Chabot's contract ends when 31. Will need big payday at that point on a 30+ contract.

Pros for Ottawa: Adds highly dynamic offensive threat.
Kyrou has additional 3 years of contract at a very reasonable hit for production.
Allows for opening to better balance out pairs. Higher-opportunity for Sanderson.

Cons for Ottawa: Removal of Chabot. Will need to add top 4 D.
Kyrou is high-risk, high-reward. May be one more year of simplifying game if needed.

Overall thoughts of Ottawa - STL trade. With Debrincat looking to be moved. Assuming corresponding move of Debrincat for a RD this could be extremely beneficial for both teams. Ottawa was willing to part with a very high draft pick to bring in Debrincat. Kyrou has a bit more ability to be a two-way player with improved compete level. Regardless, Ottawa doesn't seem scared to add a high-end offensive weapon at the cost of defensive ability on wing.

I get the idea on the Pens trade, but another offensive dman is not what we need.

Hard pass on all of it, sorry. And what could possible be the benefit of throwing Bortz in the trash? This boggles my mind when Blues fans do this.

What good is he currently doing for us aside from providing a veteran presence? We need to develop a young defenseman. I'm not opposed to keeping bortuzzo, but I don't necessarily see a reason to at this point. He's a depth PKer who is good in the locker room. I'd imagine he wouldn't want to go through this transition either.

Huh? Every time he was out, our PK went in the crapper. When he was around, they had like 3-4 streaks of 18-22 kills in a row. Same thing with our lead protecting. Not sure if you notice, but he often plays up when the game is on the line. He's also our most pronounced physical presence in defense. And he's very capable for dirt cheap. And yes, he's a team leader. We saw what happened when Frenchy was let go. No need to upset the room like that again.
