Description
I want Montreal to get Dubois, but only at the right price for Montreal, which I think is waiting for free agency (first choice, but not sure it is an option) or via trade, with the Florida 1st, Kidney, Harris (MAYBE) and Dvorak to Winnipeg. I think that the most the Habs should give Dubois is $8M per year.

My other line of thinking, though, is what could Montreal get at pick #14 if Pittsburgh would do Granlund and #14 to Montreal for the Florida pick (#31), Kidney, Harris (MAYBE) and Norlinder? I think they may be able to get Matthew Wood at #14 and he is a big center with offensive talent like PLD, but with perhaps a little less baggage,

THEN the question for me becomes: could Matthew Wood outperform PLD over the years? PLD's career high in points so far is 63 points (through his first 6 seasons). Could Wood be a guy that averages 65 points per year? That is not an insanely high point total for someone with Wood's talent.
If Wood can produce like that, does it not make more sense to pay the price to Pittsburgh for the 14th pick and pay Wood the entry level contract and the bridge deal amounts now rather than paying PLD $8M and arguably giving up more in a trade to Winnipeg than they would give up in a trade to Pittsburgh?

Montreal only has to pay Granlund for one more year, so that still saves money vs paying PLD over the years.

Which would you do if it comes down to the trade options only?

14 to 31 is too big of a drop just to dump Granlund. Cheaper just to buy him out if that's the best offer they get for Granlund.

Harris was pretty a impressive rookie on defence last year. Lots of potential there. I think it is a fair offer.

I'd rather pay for 14OA than Dubois, but it all depends on the actual prices in question.

What do you think of the prices that I proposed in BOTH trades?

    What about
    Ruuta
    Granlund
    Prospect ish in A. Nylander
    14th OA
    2nd round pick in 2024

    For

    Savard @1.75m(50%rs)
    Ylonen
    Kindey
    31st OA

PIT dumps 5.75m over 2 years
PIT gets an upgrade on Nylander
PIT gains MTL's #2 Ranked Center Prospect in the NHL's 12th deepest system for prospects.

MTL takes on Cap Dumps they can use we can flip later.
Granlund is a Winger who can take faceoffs supporting a young Centers like Dach
Ruuta will help Kovacevic and Barron handle the right side minutes until we flip him.
Nylander might rebound here but if not he's a hell of a AHL player and we got a pretty good AHL team for once(or atleast a good coach)
    14th OA speaks for itself
2nd round pick in 2024 helps MTL get more value then Nylander and a 14th OA pick out of a cap dump situation where we gave up 2 good young pieces and a RD at a bargain cap while clearing the way for PIT to sign another player
