Description
Draft:

Given that the Canucks need superstar talent more than anything, they need to avoid the pitfall of drafting based on positional need. With that being said my ideal pick for the Canucks on draft day are as follows:

1. Michkov - longshot, but people have speculated that he could fall outside of the top 10 due to his contract situation in Russia
2. Benson -longshot as well, but his size may be a concern for some teams, enough for him to slide down
3. Moore - fast center who performed well despite not getting top line minutes or pp time like Smith and Leonard
4. David Reinbacher - more of a complimentary piece that can be more than the sum of its parts alongside player like Hughes
5. Danielson - smart two-way game and fast

RFA signings:

Hoglander agrees to a 1 year bridge deal that benefits Hoglander's camp as it allows them to be 1 year closer to free agency, while also potentially setting themselves up for raise if he performs this year. Meanwhile, the Canucks get to keep the AAV for Hoglander's deal low while they manage a cap crunch this year.

Bear similarly agrees to a 1 year bridge deal for many of the same reasons as Hoglander. Bear is positioned well to get a raise as long as he can compliment Hughes at a level comparable to Schenn, Juulsen, etc..

UFA signings:

Accari brings a speed tenacity element that Tocceht has often hinted that the Canucks severely lack. Accari should have many suitors, but I expect offers to fall close to the 2 million range, what the Canucks offer is a 3rd line spot effectively guaranteed given the state of the rest of their bottom 6

Kulikov had a down year last year in Anahiem, but was good in Minnesota the year prior. Essentially he went from one of the best defensive teams to one of the worst. The hope is that his game finds a middle ground once joining the Canucks.

  1. Wilde, Bode [Droits de RFA]
Détails additionnels:
Wilde was once considered a higher end prospect when drafted in the 2nd round in 2018; however, after deciding not to be vaccinated it appears his tenure with the Islanders is basically over. Meanwhile, the Canucks have also struggled to develop an interesting college player who has shown fairly well in the AHL in Rathbone. Effectively this is a low risk role of the dice for both teams, with the Canucks getting the added benefit of getting a right side dman who also happens to be about 6 months younger than Rathbone.
2.
VAN
  1. Armia, Joel
  2. Choix de 6e ronde en 2023 (MTL)
  3. Choix de 2e ronde en 2024 (COL)
Détails additionnels:
The Canucks get a similar return to Bjorkstrand from last year as they take on Joel Armia's contract in exchange. It seems likely that the Canadians will land Dubois sometime in the near future. Boeser fits nicely as a complimentary piece to a Habs forward core that could feature Suzuki Dubois Caufield, Slafkovsky as soon as next year. The Canucks get the added benefit of freeing up nearly 3.2 million, while also adding a pick to replace the one lost from the Dickinson cap dump to Chicago.

Boeser is worth around a late second (although i think hes worth more) and Armia costs around a mid second to dump, so you could get more for him. Also is studnicka on the team or no?

Finally an interesting Boeser deal. Tired of the Boeser for a first bull****. But I don’t think Montreal need Boeser. Value is fair though

Boeser isnt any less of a cap dump than Armia tho. Armia is an easy buyout, Boeser is not. The 2nd round pick is going the wrong way

I'd trade Norlinder for the local kid, Bode Wilde

I'm not so sure if Boeser is worth a late second round pick (especially without any retention/taking back of a bad contract). I think if he was worth that much he would have already been traded. The Bjorkstrand trade is an instructive comparable as both players are wingers with a similar impact overall. Columbus (who was also in a cap bind) moved him for a 3rd and 4th and took no money back; however, Bjorkstrand is also making 1.2 million dollars less than Boeser. If anything I think the Canucks may be able to get a 4th or a 5th instead of a 6th, but this feels like a relatively realistic value for Boeser given the term and caphit associated with his deal.

...and I would argue that the Habs could get a good return on Armia if they retained $1.4m, bringing him down to a $2.0m AAV.
