Not yet sure on how to get here, but it is a good place to get to so I'm going to try and work it out
Single year double ret has cost between a 4th and 5th round pick - So that covers Berts 3rd team. I'll use a 4th since it will be late
That 3rd team could also take 3x600k, or Detroit if they decide to use their cap space and money.
I imagine that would cost more. Say a 2nd ish. 2nd would be in 2026 so I'll throw in another pick to entice them. Say a 3rd
Total estimated retention cost = 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.
Holl, Kerf and Sandin would be on the move as they lose their roster spots.
Rumours around Vancouver are swirling. Maybe a 3rd from them for local boy Kerf.
Holl is kind of underrated by CF frankly. He should get a mid round pick too. Lets say a 3rd from an analytical team needing a RD
Sandin would be the primary piece going back to Arizona
Trade piece costs:
CF consensus is around a 1st round pick for Bert. I will send our 2024 1st (top 10 protected) and a B to Detroit. I like Hirvonen so I'll use him.
Chychrun's cost is higher, but as they run out of suitors, won't be as crazy as the ask. Goal will be 3 pieces going back. Can we do it without Knies?
1. Sandin
2. Niemela
3. 2026 1st (TOR) - We know that Arizona is happy to get delayed picks as they have done so with the Leafs 2025 2nd recently
Conclusion: Not without Knies if we want to keep it to 3 pieces
Options:
1: Sandin, Knies, 2026 1st (top 10 prot)
2: Sandin, Niemela, 2026 1st (top 2 prot), Prospect
Top prospects not currently being used are Voit, Robertson, Amirov, Akhtiamov
Personally, I think the best is Robbie as he has shown good results and is much closer - but the injury issues might dissuade Arizona. Amriov is a no go. both because a team wouldn't want to take on that risk and also the look of trading a guy with brain cancer is awful. Goalies are goalies, both always in need, highly valuable, and also total sh1tshows to scout. I think the best bet here is Voit for value.
So lets use option 2 as our base. Just to be safe I'll toss in another 3rd:
This is stupid and will never happen, but frankly I think this is as close as you could get based on what we know
A first plus a C-tiered prospect isn't even gonna get you Bertuzzi, let alone any retention.
This is based on the fact that Jeannot's price ****ed up the market.
TJ's price was inflated because of his contract status - something Bert doesn't have. furthermore standard ret for an expiring contract is really low (4th or 5th).
I'm going with CF's average offer (1st ish) and adding a B (not C) tier prospect to be safe

Vancouver's not giving up draft picks or anything else for Kerfoot.
Firstly, not a huge part of this AGM so like - who cares.
2nd, its gonna be really funny if you end up doing something like this on Friday (or even exactly that since rumors are circulating about a trade between VAN and TOR around one of our expiring deals)

First, you proposed it.
Second, the draft pick would be going the other way. Vancouver would be getting a pick to help Toronto clear cap space.
