Description
With the use of LTIR during the summer, I don't think the leafs will trade JVR, they will use him for a run. However, the possibility still exists for a trade for a D to a team like Carolina who could use his offence. The canes have a surplus of D, and the leafs could use a young RHD. I have the leafs offering of JVR along with Soshnikov and a 2nd, which should be enough to get Pesce, considering JVR only has one year left on his contract.

The leafs also trade for Colin Miller, which has been rumoured for a while, and Carrick may not have the future we thought with the leafs. The leafs get rid of two contracts for one, along with a 2nd to Vegas, who is collecting picks. Vegas has to trade some D, and this gives them a desired pick and a veteran forward in Fehr to slot into their lineup, along with a depth D in Marincin.

That's a lot to give up for Miller who is questionable better than Marincin and without Fehr, the Leafs have no NHL depth at centre. You know Carolina is "cheap", Pesce looks like a solid NHLer and and at least four years of control, while JVR is a UFA in a year.

I like your thought process, but think the Pesce deal is a little rich! Perhaps Carolina could investigate an extension for JVR, as I think that is a destination he might like to go to! Should that happen, I would hope they would drop the 2nd round pick at least! YOu're right all of a sudden we would have a fair amount of young depth on the RD, if you believe Liljegren might be only a year away, with tons of control!

Miller is young with upside higher than Marincin. I know Fehr provides centre depth, but I assume Nylander will play centre if needed. Carolina is cheap for sure, but their need for scoring may possibly cause them to make a splash, without giving up Faulk. Possibly an extension would have to be part of the deal?

I would say Carolina would probably require an extension. Maybe the pick would be dropped, but young D with potential will cost, Soshnikov don't have a future with the leafs in my opinion. RHD would look great then I agree with Zaitsev, Pesce, Carrick and Liljegren! Thanks for the comment.
