Description
What if Roster if the signings and trades that the wanted actually happened.

Stastny never leaving in UFA, he accepts the Avs offer of matching (rumoured they offered 6.6mx4years)

They pull off the James neal trade at the 2014 draft, with Pitts accepting the PAP and the 23rd overall (Bleackley) that Rutherford said was on the table.

Iggy doesnt sign w/ the Avs with the arrival of Neal and takes the offer from Tampa (had 3 offers bw Avs/Tampa/Islanders that he finally decided on)

Undoing the Stuart and Berra trades.

Stralman accepts the Avs offer instead of the Tampas, Roy said they were after him hard when he hit UFA.

Kevin Hayes signs with the Avs, rumoured to be down to Avs, Rangers, and Boston at the time of the signing

The ROR trade seemed like it would have happened regardless

Edit: Rumour that Avs were in on Dougie Hamilton trade, Boston wanted 10th overall and Bigras. Updated line up if they pulled that deal, if so wouldnt have signed Beauchemin bc of it.

If Stastny, Mack, Duchene, Grigo in the mix, Soderberg signing wouldnt have happened.

Good scenario you laid out. If the cap goes to 75m next year, the Avs looks OK, but they still would have to give raises to their UFA Johnson, RFAs Barrie and Mckinnon. So the cap would have been tight.
I take look at the Avs forwards, and I think they should be solid there even without Stastny. Real NHL GMs and Armchair GMs seemed to think sometimes that they cannot lose their own UFAs, when the better road to take is to let them go and someone else inflated price and then to sign someone else with better value.
Just estimating, but at 7m a year puts Stastny in the about the top 15 salaries of NHL forwards. Do you really think, his current play puts in that elite status? Do you think St.Louis regrets making him their second highest paid player? My opinion is that the Avs were best to let Stastny leave (and Reilly) and spend their money wisely elsewhere.

There are a few situations that might have never have happened if the Avs had those series of moves, like Signing Soderberg and Beauchemin last summer so that is 9m of cap that could have been moved around, didnt want to really over think it. Im sure they would have had the cash to make it all work next season too if they didnt overspend on those 2 UFAs from last summer

No stastny wouldnt be worth his cap hit with the offense he produces, but out of the current Avs 3 Cs (Duchene, Mack, Soderberg) none are handling the defensive responsibilities and zone starts like Stastny was able to. Him being in the Top 6 would have calmed things down for the current roster, he really was key to the Avs playoff run since his defensive play in their own zone was so crutial for taking the pressure off the D pairings

Thanks for answering my questions. As an Easterner? Toronto area, don't get to see the Avs that much. Thanks for your insight. To further your appraisal of Stastny, didn't the Blues finish first in their division last year? Guess Stastny had something to do with that.
