Yzerman continues his slow rebuild to bring the Wings back to contention. With the market somewhat set for his current UFAs, he addresses contracts before the free agency period.
Larkin finally signs for 8 yrs at $8.75 million to lock in his Captain. Bertuzzi signs a short-term contract to get past his injury history for 2 yrs at $6.25 million, and Walman for 4 yrs at $4.75 million (same contract that Chiarot signed but doesn't have the NTC attached to it).

The comments from the OP on the Ducks trade really don't make any sense. For starters why does Groulx need to "restart" his career? He's got a great chance at a full time NHL roster spot going into next season in place of UFA's Megna and/or Grant. If he earns that spot then he'll have to earn keeping it just like any 23 yr-old trying to jump from the AHL to the NHL.

Vrana was acquired from the caps while Verbeek was on the scouting staff in Detroit, if Verbeek had been interested in him, he would have claimed him off waivers a couple weeks ago for free. There's a reason he didn't, so I don't see him parting with any asset to acquire him now.
