Description
For those of you making Larkin trades, this is what it would take or else he’s staying. So, it’s safe to say he’s staying.

This is obviously not a prediction of what I think will happen. Larkin is likely not being dealt and we’re also likely not going to be buyers of any sort.

I do however think it’s important to prepare for the future and trade as many pending free agents we can. I’m just really not a big Larkin fan so, my preference would be to trade him if we got enough value; I think we do that here.

It would also be nice to see move like the Demko one, where we can potentially get a player whom otherwise would not be available and essentially “buy low” although, still a steep price for a guy playing as bad as he has this year. I still think the world of Demko so, I’d pay that price, especially if we load up on picks via the corresponding moves.

Taxi Squad is the prospect rankings in order - Wallinder, Mazur, Morrow, Buium & Tuomisto all signed next year.

I can't see Carolina paying that. Morrow and Jarvis is too expensive. Maatta is probably a 3rd, I have a hard time thinking they don't get more quality for demko.

I like where your head is at, and these deals are pretty reasonable. I doubt Demko can be had without a 1st and making it up in volume isn't really gonna make Vancouver jump at the trade. However, this is Vancouver, so they make it a point to do terrible trades that don't work for them.

I dont think Larkin gets that haul. Their best prospect that is probably NHL ready, Jarvis is good already and figures to be a 2C one day soon, I think, and a late 1st. The D prospect is playing alright in Finland, but at 19 he has a ways to go, and the Finnish league isn't bad but it certainly is well below the SHL.

Basically, Carolina is giving up more than they'd be willing. For perspective, I'd say this would be the equivalent of Detroit trading Edvinsson, Rasmussen, and Viro/Wallinder, and a pick, to land Horvat. Jarvis is probably better than Rasmussen, but Edvinsson is probably better than Morrow.

Come onnn, Kubalik is in there, though. Dominik Kubalik, the prolific point producer every Wings fan on here doesn’t wanna let go of. I should unblock HockeyIsMyPassion so we can get more perspective on how amazing & valuable Dominik Kubalik is.

I could see Carolina overpaying to replace Max; this likely won’t be the deal they do though for obvious reasons.

Maatta’s value definitely took a hit ever since getting switched off of Hronek’s pairing. At this point, with Walman presumably in the mix next year, I would hope Maatta is moved rather than losing him for nothing, as it would make little sense to re-sign both he and Walman.

Demko is an interesting case, as is Vancouver as a whole. I can’t really see a team giving up more than that and Vancouver will likely want more but, with the injury and poor play; it is most likely he is not traded at all.

I agree I have a hard time seeing demko traded. I know goalies are bananas and selling him now gets them off the hook for the money but it's also maybe selling low on a high end goalie. They're better off waiting unless someone kills them with an offer.

Thank you. Good points on all fronts.

Jarvis appears to be strictly a winger. He’s not lived up to expectations this year but, I don’t anticipate Carolina moving him just yet. I was hellbent in the offseason about trying to pry Marty Necas away from them and he is now having a career year. I think patience would be best for Jarvis & the Canes but, if they can get a player like Larkin for him, it might work.

I could see CAR doing a trade like this but, with Jarvis OR Morrow, likely not both. I suppose how they view Kubalik’s value and an extension perhaps in place for Larkin could impact the return in Detroit’s favor. More than likely though, Larkin is not traded.

Also, reasonable comparison on that trade package - the Edvinsson & Rasmussen explanation makes sense, however I’d use maybe Buium instead of Wallinder, and if the Red Wings were a dominant team like the Canes are, that would give us something to think about. I probably wouldn’t do it, but something to consider nonetheless.
