This is a terrible idea since 1) Tavares and Karlsson might only have a few more years of elite play (that's if you consider Tavares elite now), so sooner rather than later they will be in need of a 1/2C and a top 2/4 RD. The tradeoff will essentially be Matthews for Meier and that's an easy loss.
I would rather take the roster that results from Matthews and Marner having matching 13.5m contracts and Nylander at 11m than this. If the Leafs were to trade Matthews they should get themselves at the least 1 established impact player (like Karlsson) and another player that is at least projected to be so, but also they need C replacement for Matthews, a goal scorer (like Meier), any main pieces that they bring in should probably be only a couple of years older than Matthews, and at least one younger cost controlled asset.
