Tkachuk had a year left (wrong expired RFA just like the Cat), did a sign and trade, was coming off a career year, and is a much more well rounded player.

Debrincats great but I don't see that as apples to apples.

Tkachuk didn't have a year left, he was RFA and unwilling to re-sign with Flames long-term. He's currently under the contract he signed with FLA. Or to be more precise, signed with CGY but for contract negotiated with FLA, since otherwise they wouldn't have been able to sign an 8-year deal.

I agree he's better than ADB, but respectively so is Huberdeau and Weegar compared to Teräväinen and Skjei. Similar concept with a tad lesser assets.

Tkachuk and Debrincat aren’t the same. Then you add in Florida well overpaid to get the trade over Carolina.

Tkachuk is 100 point power forward. Small wingers don’t have the same value.

You are correct, I guess I confused his RFA status with having a year left. I think the narrative that confused me was the idea of qualifying for a year then losing him.
