Idk about giving Bourgault for anything other than a defensman. Monohan would be great and all but to me it just doesnt make sense valuewise.

-Yet again, I am here to ask Montreal fans: how does Calgary afford Josh Anderson next year? They've given an extra $9M in extensions to Huberdeau, Weegar, & Vladar, partially based on the idea that Lucic's $5.625M was falling off the cap at the end of this year. Before you add Anderson, they've got 10 F/6 D/2 G under NHL contract for next year, with ~$81.6M in cap obligations. Even if you think that the cap hits $86.5M they would *still* be over the cap with Anderson next year. It just doesn't work without them selling off guys for pennies on the dollar over the summer, which really doesn't sound like a good team-building strategy, does it?

-I honestly don't know how Edmonton would fit Monahan's cap on their roster. They're already using LTIR with Smith & Klefbom so it's not like they're going to accrue deadline space, and I just don't see anyway for them to add a $3M cap hit without sending something back. I also don't see the logic in sending out such a highly regarded prospect for a rental - oh, and in case Montreal fans have forgotten, Monahan is hurt again and hasn't played in a week, so that injury red flag that he came into the year with has been raised yet again.

-5 points in 23 GP would be iffy production for a defensive Dman. It's downright abysmal for an offensively-minded winger with a $2.5M cap hit. Dadonov doesn't move unless he can at least get close to a 35-40 point pace.

-I could see Edmonton more likely to trade for a Joel Edmundson to shore up their blue line, but again: the cap just isn't there. You need to retain on Edmundson to even get this off the runway at all.

-Canucks shouldn't be trading Boeser in-season - Montreal isn't (and shouldn't) give up futures for him at this point, nor should any other rebuilding team; and almost every contender is capped out to the point that they'd need retention or a bad contract going back. I think if Vancouver waits til the summer, they will have a much wider audience for a Boeser trade, and potentially a better return at that point.

Agree with all your points but when has Vancouver made the smartest decision?

Lol true, best decision they ever made. Ethan Bear was a good call too in my opinion.
