I think with this lineup the Leafs could very well compete without the need to acquire any big players. I know it shows here the Leafs being over the cap, but depending on how LTIR is used this season that number should be brought down under the limit. Worst case scenario you can move Holl to clear the needed room.

The first line does not need any explanation, great well rounded line with great chemistry.

By bringing in Knies at the end of the season, it will hopefully secure the 2nd line as a steady and hard-nosed offensive threat. Until such a time that he can join the team, Malgin can hopefully fill in that role.

The 3rd line shown here of Robertson-Kerfoot-Jarnkrok, which has played together this preseason, gives me flashbacks to the famous Stanley Cup winning HBK line from Pittsburgh.

You have Nick Robertson who is the scoring winger with an amazing shot (aka Phil Kessel)

Alex Kerfoot is a pass-first centreman who likes charging the net (aka Nick Bonino)

Calle Jarnkrok is a speedy and defensively-minded winger who doesn't score as much, but is a steady anchor for the line (aka Carl Hagelin)

This leaves your 4th line as a great shutdown line, which was basically their 3rd line from last season.
