Description

Hard to see sabres not matching based on the cap space but signing him for the shortest term before free agency could be a move. If olofsson underperforms, they won’t want to pay the QO, if he over preforms they have to pay him even more to stay around. Throws a wrench into the sabres negotiations. If that doesn’t work just offer the same contract to mangiapanie from the flames cuz they are already tight on cap. Flames trade is so hard to gauge, mangiapanie is a want, Pelletier and zary are also wants. Just further adds to a deep prospect pool. Also would have to assume both lucic and monahan waive their modified NTC. I honestly don’t know. Ducks don’t want to fall into the trap of beinnf borderline playoffs and then signing so many free agents to bad contracts and then being screwed 5 years down the line. I think they do a combination of weaponizing their cap and also get younger with the Calgary trade. Carolina can’t match the necas deal and if they make the space to, they shouldn’t, that’s coming from a canes fan. Olofsson could sign this big contract that could have buffalo not matching because of the dollar amount and what the QO is next season. Hard situation but I think they walk out with their first and third. Go ahead, roast me flames fans and buffalo fans. I think I made this a playoff team in some sick twisted way but I think they just squeak in. This was more fun than anything else.

I honestly don’t know, monahan and lucic both have negative value, would help ensure Johnny hockey definitely stay in town if they dumped both. Henrique And silfverberg at roughly 5.5 together is pretty valuable imo, worth at least mangiapanie plus, zary and Pelletier probably don’t both go in this deal but two prospects definitely go and one of them is zary or Pelletier, flames fans lmk who goes and who is a solid option for the prospect they send instead of the guy they don’t send. Ideally picks even this out but this is one of those things where the value is so unknown given that there is much negative and so much positive it’s hard to tell where the value is precisely.

As a ducks fan I don’t think anyone would want Silf right now. The dude hasn’t been fully healthy for a long time and it shows in his game. Not a terrible idea outside of that, but I wouldn’t move Comtois. He’s a better fit on that top line than Mangiapane is. Z and Terry need a net front/boards guy who has some weight to throw around

There is zero incentive for the Ducks to take on the Monahan and Lucic contracts at 11.5M plus the retained money to then end up at 14M over the cap floor. All that is doing a MASSIVE favor for Calgary, a division rival. The Ducks are perfectly content to let Calgary remain hamstrung by the cap.

Olafsson isn't worth a 1st and a 3rd. Not even close.
