Don’t think Palat would sign in NJ

Palat is going to want term, which is a no-go for me. Nichuskin would be fantastic, but like you said, he'll likely re-sign in COL. Plus he may have some beef with Ruff.

Burakovsky and Copp might be some other options if Fitz does want to get heavier up front.

Preferred forward targets in FA, other than Palat or Nichushkin:

Dylan Strome
Copp
Niederreiter

Depending on signings at forward, I'd want Zetterlund to either play with Bratt and Hischier or to play the 3rd line. I'm a big believer in him and think he'll do great wherever in the lineup he plays.
Regarding Holtz, a lot can happen over a summer but I'm 50 - 50 whether he'd be ready for the NHL come October.
Holtz was nowhere close to ready in the outings he got last season and having him at least starting out in the AHL wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.
I don't think Foote is anywhere near close to NHL ready. Dude's gonna need at least one more year of AHL development, if not two.
With both of Foote and Holtz I'd really wouldn't mind them developing away from the NHL a bit further.
The Devils are not at a point were either of them need to be rushed in the slightest.

In my opinion, Devils should not consider trading Johnsson at anytime before TDL. Dude was really solid last season and this fanbase tends to underrate him due to uncharacteristically poor first season in Jersey.
There's no need to trade Kuokkanen either, dude's still got some runway to develop and shouldn't be tossed just because he had a bad sophomore in the NHL.
Besides, Kuokkanen was quite unfortunate with injuries to. At least, the depth he provides is quite valuable, especially if we don't want to look forward to any further Geertsen disasterclasses for next season.
Fitzgerald should look to move Tatar however. Even though he played like an average middle six guy, it looks like age caught up with him somewhat. I think you could get a fair bit of value by trading him with retention to a team like Colorado or Pittsburgh.

I don't see the need for a 3rd goalie.
Between Daws, Schmid and a possibly fit Bernier in the latter half of the season, I think there's more than enough cover for Vanecek and Blackwood.
But if Ottawa would offer a high draft pick for dumping Murray's cap, I'd want Fitzgerald to strongly consider that.
