Description

Kadri and Nuchischkin re-sign with a slight hometown discount and Lehkonen signs RFA deal. Only UFA is Casey DeSmith to be 1B behind Frankie; with regular looks at Annunen in the NHL. No $ left for Burakovsky or roster space for Aube-Kubel.
Sedlak could battle for a spot on the 4th line with Ben Meyer unless one of Sampo Ranta or Oscar Olausson takes a step up in off season; in which case Aube-Kubel is probably traded for a draft pick after signing his RFA deal.
Accrue the additional $1.0 million in cap space until the trade deadline to make any necessary moves.

You can MAYBE get Kadri on a discount like that but it will have to be at least 5 years. Kuemper might be playing his way out of COL as we speak.

Yeah Kadri vs Kuemper seems to be the choice facing Avs (after Nooch) and assuming Burakovsky isn't in the plans.

Aside from Kadri there are may e 2 or 3 viable options for 2C in UFA

It depends on what you think Newhook can handle. If you think he is ready but need an emergency back stop, a guy like Statsny could be viewed as an option. If you are looking for a guy that can play 2C then if Newhook is ready in a year, I suppose you could say Trochek, Copp, and Strome are options. There are some trade options out there to potentially maybe a guy like Bennet.

I don't think Newhook will be ready. At least I wouldn't gamble on that happening during free agency. He'll get his shot with injuries, etc to step up during the year. I wouldn't let the championship window ride on him filling that role.

However I do think the Avs can make it with "OK" goaltending so I would spend the money on Kadri or someone close to that level.

I don't see Bennett as viable option since we'd have to give up too much and Panthers are focusing on other areas right now.
