Description
One possible option here. I really don’t know how this goalie situation is going to sort out, but Guerin hasn’t shown himself to be much of BS artist to date and he says he wants Fleury back. I don’t think there is any chance he signs of he’s told he is expected to share the net with Cam. So in this one, Cam is sent off to NJ. The Holtby backup thing ? I don’t know - Guerin love Cup winners so there is your rationale.
The Fiala trade…is this about right? Isles will be hard pressed to give Raty up, but what else do they have to offer that will outbid NJ, Ottawa etc? And Fiala may be more likely to sign long term there than some other suitors.
Finally, this version shows a team beginning to turn the roster over under the cap situation gradually beginning what will be three years of youth coming through. 3rd and 4th line centers as rookies ? Not something Dean or BG would typically love, but the situation with the cap is what it is and this youth movement may be the best way to kick off these three years.
The following season one would expect Beckman and maybe one more F prospect to push for Duhaimes spot if he either becomes too expensive or doesn’t keep improving and F. Gudreaus spot when he likely prices himself out of Minny.
Similarly, on the blue line you’d see some mix of Lambos, ORourke and Johansson vying for Dumbas spot with the others maybe waiting one more year still to fill Goligoski spot.
The team will look a lot different in three years and this is the beginning of that transition I think.

I think this is fair middle ground for the Isles. Raty and the 13th pick this year just feels a little too rich. Next year (when we should rebound) with top-5 protection is reasonable if Raty is included

Very much just speculating here, but I think NJ or Ottawa beat out the Isles for Fiala if this is what NYI is offering. Make it the Isles' 22 1st and we'd be talking... especially if another prospect like Khovanov is going the other way.

My speculation here is sort of that BG may get focused on a single player - he’s made the comment recently that he isn’t out to “win” trades…Raty may be the kind of player he falls for. If not Raty, it could be someone in the Kings system like Turcotte, Devils system like Gritsyuk or Mukhamadullim or Senators system like Shane Pinto. I could see Guerin looking for a trade where he gets some player he can see and that he envisions as part of the Wild identity (whatever that means, I suspect he has a ‘type’) coupled with a pick of some sort that he can then exercise his own judgement on.

I guess what I am saying is I think Guerin may end up not taking the “best trade package” as pundits would view it instead wanting to get his one good, targeted guy.

Totally agree with the sentiment about Guerin wanting to target a specific player. I've said it on other posts, but I think he would prefer the focal point of a Fiala trade to be a cost-controlled great-to-elite forward prospect who can contribute soon. In that light this particular trade makes sense, IF Guerin believes Raty is that guy.
