I don't know that the value is there in either trade. Given that you're taking a multi-year cap dump back in the Jeannot trade, I don't think NSH should be giving up a 2nd with Jeannot.

Also, with the prime assets you're sending to EDM (Saros, and Ekhom with multi-year retention) and the cap dumps you're taking back, you're not getting enough value there either. The picks are nice, but I don't see Lavoie or Broberg having the potential to become impact players. For me, Bourgault would have to be included.

I think broberg has the ability to replace Ekholm in the long run. I wasn’t sure on the rest of the return on what assets to target. I kind of was looking at Holloway but thought that might be too much of their better assets to ask for in one trade

Yeah I didn't bother mentioning Holloway, as I assume he's already pencilled into EDM's lineup next season, and a non-starter for them. I think if you're giving up both Saros and Ekholm in the same deal, plus taking back cap dumps, retaining for multiple years, etc, someone with 1st line/pairing upside has to be part of the return. I think Broberg can be a nice #3-4 defenseman someday, but he doesn't have that top of the lineup potential NSH needs to get back here.
