Description
Alright so this is my attempt for trying to figure what I think the wild should following the post season (NOTE: All of this is really subject to change depending on the performance in the postseason)
So lets start first with Fiala. I believe that Fiala is easily capable of being an effective top line winger that puts up at least 70 points a year. The Wild should really keep him but with this cap crunch I just dont see it really being possible. Ottawa isn't a set and stone team but just what I think the likely return would look like. Im sure many Wild fans like myself would not think that its enough for how good a player he is and your probably right. However, considering he could walk to ufa with an arbitration and the Wilds weak position due to this cap situation Its in my opinion the best its gonna get. A first plus a decent-good prospect and a mid round pick. Ottawa is a great team due to the strength of the Atlantic and I think that it works for both teams (kind of). Its just not gonna be ideal so the Wild have gotta take what they can get and move on.
So now onto the controversial move its Matt Dumba being moved. I wanna preface this by saying I love Dumba and think he is truly a portion of the heart and soul of the wild. In an ideal world it would be great to lock him up to a long term contract. However with the buyouts its far from ideal, hell its a nightmare so I think moving him unfortunately makes sense. The return is what I think he is likely to fetch on the trade market however his value is definitely debatable and that's not really my aim. With the wild having Brodin and Spurgeon locked up at 6 and 7.5 and a d pipeline of Lambos, Adison, O'Rourke and Hunt I would personally make this move (Not a GM and dont pretend to be)
Now for the signings, Middleton I feel is a solid defenseman who can play in the top 4 until the young guys are ready or until this cap crisis ends. Deslauriers has been great so far and it definitely makes sense to keep him around. And Stalock as the backup may be a bit sus at this stage but trusting it to him who has experience or one of the goalies down in Iowa may be a viable option. Lineups are all subject to change as thats up to Evason.
The defense is certainly not Stanley cup worthy (most likely) but the team still has some capspace to play and could sign a vet or make a trade at the deadline. Overall I am ok with it.
Anyway so that's the end of my prediction for next season. Let me know what you think! (Please dont slay me Im just the average hockey fan sharing my opinion.)

I really don't see how Dumba can be traded without taking cap back in a trade. He has a 10 team no trade list, which eliminates poor teams with cap. And poor teams aren't giving up three top picks for a year rental. And the majority of teams on his trade list don't have the cap to take on a 6m without sending cap back to Minni. Just think there are really so few option to trade Dumba and certainly he isn't getting that return.

You know you may be right. Its highly possible Minny keeps Dumba. I just dont see the long-term logic in regards to cap in it for them. Maybe its a keep him and then flip him at the deadline kinda deal (if the team is underachieving)? Not sure. Really I feel hes just gonna get extended but moving him is just what I would do. Will be interested to see how Guerin handles this mess.

Yea it's a mess, but what compounds the problem is the so many teams have cap issues too. Players that signed before Covid sure benefitted as some them make "too much" in a flat cap league. Think many new contract for players (not the stars) are really going to be squeezed unless the cap goes up (somehow) significantly in the next few years.
