Jm okay with the players only if Oleksiak didn’t sign that deal. It seems like a Muzzin contract were in 2-3yrs that maybe bad. Id rather also keep lilly and throw in someone else.

I like the thinking here, not sure if it’s enough value but who knows.
See too many comments on trades about “what about the cap next year” who cares, if it fits for this season that’s all that matters. Can trade guys in the off season (even ones we get at this deadline) to get under the cap.
If they end up knowing muzzin will be out til the playoffs they have to fully maximize that cap space. I like non rentals because you can get assets back in the off season when guys need to be moved for space.

I was surprised when Oleksiak signed for $4.6 MIL for 5 years. I figured that Zadorov would be a measuring stick so I knew Oleksiak would get more than his previous $2.1 MIL especially when Zadorov signed 2 contracts in a row at $3.2 MIL. Seeing Oleksiak sign for so much I wasn't surprised to see Calgary give Zadorov $3.75 MIL.

$4.6 MIL is too much salary cap % for what Oleksiak brings which is too bad because I really have liked his playing style. If the Leafs could give some extra assets to have retention on the final 4 years then it would hurt but make more sense financially.
