According to Leafs fans there is absolutely no way they can make it through the expansion draft without losing 3 or 4 players. This way, the Leafs upgrade their D, and Bob Murray continues to sleep well at night knowing that all of his boys get to still be best friends!

The first round picks are in case Fowler decides to break up with the boys and leaves in FA next summer.

You couldn't push this trade for that EVER. I'll do the same deal for Vatanen. I don't care. I just thought you would want the guy who has more control for longer. Keep Fowler and overpay him. I'll take Vatanen for just under $5M and give you the 4 players for him. I have a defense of Vatanen, Reilly, Gardiner and Zaitsev for under $20M. I've got plenty of space for Auston, Mitch and Willie.

I know a lot of this has a to do with Fowler. But why would the rebuilding want him? He's only year away from being a UFA. Can't Fowler be traded to some other teams. And the Leafs do have Reilly, Gardiner and prospect at LHD. Please leave Fowler off the Leafs.
