There will have to be some salary cap gymnastics worked out to make these deals work, but I think these are the two guys the Caps need to target. Maybe finding a taker for Kempny before the deadline would get the job done. Not sure what the prorated cap hits will be at the deadline for this to work.

I have more faith in Holtby than either of our two young guys to lead us on a deep run. If Dallas is on the outside looking in come February, I think this is a logical move for the Caps to make. The resurgent start to the season gives me faith in him coming back to DC, and if things look rough early, turn back to Samsonov/Vanecek.

With all the money Vegas will have to move out to get Eichel under the cap, McNabb is a likely candidate to go. I think his physicality and ability to clear the crease is something we need that's really important come playoff time. He can play the Brooks Orpik role without being such a pylon.

Once this team gets healthy, I think there's a real shot to make some noise. The East seems pretty wide open, so why not make a real run at this thing? Without mortgaging the future, I like these two moves to boost our chances of at least getting out of the Metro this year.
