I don't think either team really wants this. That CAR 1st is essentially a 2nd round pick. That team is SO good. Stan's not looking for the #30 pick. His motivation to trade Strome (or not) is dependent on Toews. If Toews isn't 100%...then the Hawks need another center and created a problem for themselves if Strome's gone. Additionally, their motivation is to make that 2022 CHI 1st as bad as possible to make the Seth Jones trade better.

***EDIT*** That's part of what makes the Offersheet SOO petty and entertaining. The #30 pick in ANY draft vs the #3OA pick that MB has been toying with.

Idk. I think theres a chance Carolina regresses under their goalie situation. That + a possible NYR contention window and philly, the isles, the pens, and the caps all looking like competitive teams, could lead to a possible playoffs miss. I dont think its likely, but its far from a guaranteed 30th OA. Id probably do it

CAR won the division last year with TBL and Florida in it. TBL obviously back to back champs and Florida was TBL's hardest competition the entire playoffs. I understand the bottom of the division last year stunk, but when you can beat the best...it's a good sign. Dumping Mrazek was a good move. trading Ned was a bad move, but I'd take Freddie/Raanta over Mrazek/Reimer 8 days a week.

NYI will be CAR's hardest competition. WAS is the oldest team in the NHL and getting older. Not 1 single Dman on the roster that's under the age of 30...and it doesn't get younger up top either. PIT's goaltending is worse, defense is worse, and depth is worse. Heck, if it weren't for Crosby specifically...CAR's top line would also be better.

Im not saying any of those teams are better on paper. I'm simply saying its possible. The pens were bottom of the division last year and turned it around to make playoffs and then sunk under their goalie again. I think DeSmith changes the outcome of that series. I think if Washington finds something to do with Kuzy and they let McMichael have a big role, I think theyre in good shape with their goalie situation.
