I really can't wrap my head around why people think this makes sense from a Washington standpoint. Drouin has already failed at center multiple times, so it's not like we'd be getting a replacement player for Kuznetsov. His point production looks fine at surface level, but only two goals in 44 games this season is a huge concern. I didn't watch Montreal a ton this year, but when I did Drouin wasn't all that noticeable. Kuznetsov is certainly a better player, and the only benefit for us is the lower cap hit, but just makes a massive problem we can't fix.
