If Dermott passes through the expansion draft, Leafs still decline. Value is fine for the most part, it's just not offering anything of need. Leafs will need Dermott for defensive depth if the young guys don't pan out. Moving him puts all their eggs in the basket of Sandin to be their #1 d-man by next season which is far too much pressure. If he's moved after, it's as part of a package for a more substantial upgrade - either at centre or in net. This deal is nothing more than a lateral move for Toronto
