This roster is an exploration if *gasp* the Canucks circle back and pursue a trade for OEL again. We know that Vancouver and Arizona were in very deep discussions about such a deal last off-season. I still don't think it's a good idea for the Canucks—but we all know that Jim Benning is a stubborn GM and he has a tendency to obsess over certain players, for better or worse.

Vancouver invests in a RH upgrade to play with Quinn Hughes. The single-year deal that Manson has gives the Canucks an opportunity to try-out the fit before committing to an extension.

The nature of this trade is motivated by Anaheim's expansion draft limitations, where they risk losing a good defenseman (Lindholm, Fowler, Shattenkirk, Manson, Fleury) no matter if they go 7-3-1 or 8-1-1.

Jim Benning's obsession with OEL continues. The Canucks rationalize that a defenseman of his perceived calibre is rarely available—especially when only 1-2 teams are on his trade list, and when the Coyotes are so interested in moving-on from OEL.

OEL's cap hit is massive, but the Canucks are making a bet that he will rebound with a fresh start and by working with Brad Shaw (considering how well he has worked with Pieterangelo, Jones, Werenski).

for Philly, that's not a bad deal. The cap maneuvering might still get in the way even with 40% salary retention; but it's definitely something they should look at. We payed Elliott 1.5 last season, so just a mil more isn't that unreasonable for Holtby; especially if he's being used as a 1b/backup.

Holt by hasn’t been a 1A/1B in more than a couple years. Going back the cup season he had a rough regular season and had a excellent post season. Not sure he’s a great option
