Discussed with a couple other Flames/Rangers fans. I think this would be a pretry solid team next year, assuming Valimaki can step up into a top 4 role. It might be prudent to see if you can get a cheap veteran 4/5 D. This would likely mean foregoing signing Sutter but that’s fine, Dube can play on the 3rd line and Gawdin or Ritchie can slot in. Maybe 1 year of Goligoski? Trading for de Haan half retained is another option. Signing a guy who can score for the 2nd line is key, Saad or Hoffman spring to mind as guys available on the open market. Granlund would be nice as another middle six option, and the Flames love playing around with the lines, so his versatility and ability to play centre if needed helps. The D is obviously set for the next decade, Hanifin/Valimaki should hold down the left side of the top 4 with Jones and Mackey knocking on the door and coming for them if they make any mistakes, and Andersson/Tanev should be good on the right side for the next 3 years, with Schneider jumping onto the 3rd pair in a year or two and replacing Tanev when his deal expires.
