I know that Buffalo is improving in draft capital quality, but why are they dropping in quantity?

If we trade Eichel, then we’re likely going into another rebuild
Tkachuk is young enough to be an attractive piece, but Monahan is too old to fit the new timeline for us to compete again. I’d imagine we’d want younger pieces

I don’t think we are great trading partners for Eichel
Other teams have more of the quality youthful pieces we’d likely be looking for

I think this would be a move the Sabres would strongly consider if Eichel wants out. Two top 6 forwards right now and a 2022 first from a Calgary team that does not look very good is a pretty good return. Perhaps the Sabres lose the 2nd rd pick and push for Zary to be included in the deal

Turn that 2nd into Zary & Monahan into 2021 1st,
and then MAYBE

Sabres should not have ANY interest in guys like Monahan
We aren’t Cup Competitive adding him & Tkachuck,
so if we trade Eichel we should be going FULL REBUILD
Tkachuk is young enough at 23 to fit that timeline- plus he’s still a RFA after his current deal is up
Monahan at 27 just doesn’t fit a “rebuild timeline” and we be better served getting younger pieces instead of him

And if we are trading Jack....
Then we should be moving Reinhart, Risto, Olofsson & anyone else over the age of 24 who has value

the point is to build a team that can compete for the Cup
NOT a team like Calgary who can’t get past the 1st round

Agreed, the goal is the cup. However I think building a team with only prospects and no veterans is not a good team dynamic. It should not take 4 or 5 years to become competitive. 2 to 3 to be cup contenders should be realistic. I am not saying they should win it in 2 or 3 years but they should be considered one of the 6 to 8 teams that realistically could.
