The roster works if Ferland is healthy by sending Roussel, Sven and Louie down. If hes not then the team can run a 23 man roster or sign another Defenceman.

Theres a couple reasons I would have done this vs what JB has done.

1. Toffoli was a good fit in the top 6 and on the powerplay. Its a tough loss having given up Madden and a 2nd for less than 20 games. His addition in the top 6 makes the team more dangerous all around and also improves the second and 3rd line by moving Boeser and Virtanen down the lineup. His addition makes the entire forward lineup stronger.

2. Schnieder may not be as good as Holtby at this stage in his career, but can be exposed to Seattle all the same and could also be revitalized under Ian Clark. Obviously the injury history is a concern but Demko would be given the majority of games in this scenario. Having him on the bench instead of Demko or Holtby makes the group stronger on a nightly basis. He has also proven he can play a solid backup role in the past for the Canucks and could mentor Demko the same way Holtby can. Possibly could have gotten him at 2 years for league min as well vs 1M.
