Only way for Rangers to trade big salaries is to retain salary


The Staal trade is due to Carolina feeling that Fleury isn't as good as they hoped he'd be when drafted 7th overall in 2014 so a trade could help refresh his career. New York would have to retain salary to bring Staal to 4 mil which is reasonable for a top 4 defenceman plus, he would be reunited with his brother and possibly play top 2 minutes with Faulk and has and opportunity to become the player he once was. The third was added because Fleury is only 20 so a draft pick is used to sweeten the deal.

Shattenkirk-Nash trade has been rumored for a while but i believe Nash is not woth 7.8 mil and salary needs to be retained for the deal to go through and Adam Tambellini is added because Shattenkirk is worth more than Nash so they also receive a B rated prospect in return for Shattenkirk to even out the trade. Ferraro is delt to provide depth fro the Rangers

Girardi is traded because of his contract. I think it his time to go and now better place to go than Dallas where he can mentor their young defencemen and have a shot at the Stanley cup sooner than he will with the Rangers. 2.25 mil is retained so that they could trade him and he is worth the price of 3.25 mil for the Stars Curtis McKenzie is recieved as a depth froward.

Rangers GM have said they are looking to trade McIlrath since Clendening has made the team over him. Don't expect more than a 4th round pick for him as he goes to Nashville to help provide depth for the Rangers
