Description
Ok, so the team as is, is pretty damn good. They made it to the ECF this year and were 2 wins away from an SCF appearance. Lou's job this offseason should be to work on off loading some of the big contracts (Boychuk, Ladd, Leddy (not a CAP dump), etc), signing the big 3 RFA's and bringing in a scorer to play with Barzy.

Off Loading Contracts - As stated above, this team is good and should be good for a number of years. Given that thought, the Isles should use their 1st round picks in 2021 and 2022 to off load Boychuk and Ladd, at least. Rational is, the Isles picks in those years should be in the bottom of the first round, ideally 25-32, and those picks very rarely pan out. Those picks however, might be useful to a team that's rebuilding and have CAP space. The Isles prospect pool should be deep enough to offset no 1st rounders the next 3 years.

RFA Signings:

Barzal - Lou gets him to agree to a 3 year bridge deal, with the promise of a bigger deal once the CAP goes up again and contracts come off the books. A 3 year deal also makes Barzal an RFA when the contract is up and not a UFA. Deal is 3yrs at 6.5m (less than Point got).

Pulock - Coming off a bridge deal already, he gets signed long term. Something along the lines of 7-8 years at 5.5-6m per season.

Toews - Gets a 2 year bridge deal similar to what Pulock got, 2yrs x 2m.

Signings:

Martin gets brought back on a cheaper deal; 2yrs at 1m per.

Greene - gets brought back as 7th D to mentor Dobson and Aho; 1yr 1m.

Hall - This is the big scorer. He wants to win and is willing to take a short term deal for a contender. He's played with Eberle in EDM and played under Lou in NJ. Signs a 1yr 7-8m deal to try and win a cup.

Ottawa does need to get to the cap floor by taking on unwanted contracts. Both Boychuk and Ladd have NTCs that can use so they won't be traded to cap rich, but poor teams.
Kings might take those players....but aren't giving up anything for them. They can spend 9.5m better on UFAs.

Assuming all of this works, why does Barzal take a bridge deal now that you have over $6m in cap space for him to sign a long-term deal? And I find it hard to believe that Toews would agree to $2m -- sure he may agree to a bridge deal (which may not be good for NYI as he'd be a UFA when it's over), then it would be at least $3m. And Hall signing a 1 year deal at below market value? Not buying it.

Hall doesn’t sign for that and having no 1st round picks for the next 3 years would be a disaster
