this would work but those big contracts mean you have no depth... bottom 6 are quite weak and you won't be able to afford an expensive goalie next year when andersen is up...the flaw with toronto is you overpaid Tavares and then you did the same for Marner and Matthews... none of them are 11 million players just because they are your best players.... look at what Boston does with contracts...... i don't think this team will ever to far in the playoffs.

Except that tavares and matthews are easily 11 million dollar players. But sure whatever.

look at what boston paid bergeron and Marchand and what Tampa pays kucherov and Stamkos and everywhere else for that matter... neither of these players are top 5 in scoring and only those players might be worth 11 million....toronto GM feel in love with his players and didn't play hard ball .. mainly because he overpaid on Tavares and so he had to give matthews more and then marner had a better season than Matthews etc.....now toronto is stuck... honestly they could sign pietro but they need to get rid one of the 11 million contracts else they will lack depth and be beaten in the playoffs by 4 line teams like Tampa Bay or St. louis and boston too.

Like i said, pasta and marchand got paid before they broke out. Thats why their deals are so good.

You are paying Tavares almost Mcdavid money ... this is what happens with UFA you overpay.. but with toronto then it caused them to overpay Matthews and Marner.. look Montreal made the playoffs this year and toronto didn't and that says it all... this toronto is flawed and they need to fix it. If you don't get quality goaltending (especially if you trade andersen) i think toronto is in trouble. But if they make the playoffs this team will not win a round as they are not built for playoff hockey as the last 3 years show.... you should not have let lou go as analytics GM have failed everywhere they go.
