I agree with most of what you said. You were a little harsh in your tones, but I agree to an extent. I am NOT saying the Canadiens will get Laine (or even that they are interested). He's a heck of a player. However, just because he plays for Winnepeg now doesn't necessarily mean he truly wants to be there. That is not just true for Laine, but true for all players playing on all teams in the NHL. North American pro sports have "drafts": a player cannot just pick where they want to play. Furthermore, there is the the prospect of his future salary. We all know that he is an exceptional talent, and with that talent comes a larger contract. He will demand more money, and the Jets will have to have internal discussions about how much they are willing to spend on him while being able to field a competative team. Look no further then Toronto, who has paid a lot of money for 4 offensive players, but probably won't have the success they are looking for until they shed salary and create a more balanced roster. I would not want to be in that position.
I am not saying that he will be traded (PLEASE do not say that I am saying that). I am just stating that if Wayne Gretzky once got traded, anyone can. But chances to win a Stanley Cup are all-too rare. Whether he is that piece that wins one for the Jets (or another team), time will tell.
