Description

Canucks fans do not want to give up anything to rid themselves of Baertschi or Ericksson. Could they get to next season and sign Toffoli, Tanev and Markstrom. I prove they can but all 3 would have to take slight to no increases in contract pay. Secondly they would have almost no cap next year to sign Petwrsson and Quinn. Yes they will be RFA, but they will want at least 2.5 to 3 million and they will not have cap to do that. Even with Sven gone, and if Ericksson is in minors saving 950 k or you buy him out saving 2 million you will not have the cap space.

Realistically it would make no sense for them to have no money to sign their best players. I would like the Sabres to sign Josh Leivo this off-season, maybe that helps. 😄

I strongly believe that the Canucks are prepared to walk away from Tanev. That is big money for a guy who is very injury prone. If the Canucks sign him to that kind of $$$ it will be a shorter term deal.

I disagree that VAN wouldn’t pay to get rid of Eriksson; I think they definitely will if the price is right and he’d be willing to waive for a destination. Same goes for Roussel or Beagle, but not Baertschi, Sutter or Benn (who all expire in a year before Petey and Hughes get paid).

As for signings I think Marky is back for about 6m AAV, Toffoli walks, and Tanev might not be back either. I think they’ll go for a cheaper and hopefully younger option on the blue line.
