Description
If the Flames do this, another option would be to move Lindholm to C and play yet another LWer on the right side and then put Ryan on one of the bottom six RW spots to take draws.

Wanted to add a veteran #4 RH Dman on a one year deal for about $2 million or so. Just a stop gap while the Flames young D group tries to take the next step. Other options I thought about were:

1. Schultz (probably makes more?)
2. Byfuglien (if he comes back)
3. Braun (not sure he'd come to Canada)
4. Shattenkirk (see #1 & #3 points)
5. Ceci (probably makes more money and term?)
6. Bogosian (he's not very good & see point #3)

Anyways, went with Green, he's from Calgary but I remember reading once upon a time that he said he'd never have interest in playing in his hometown. Not sure if that's changed or not as his career winds down.....

I also thought about trading for Boychuk at 50% retained, but he has 2 more years left and 50% would be $3 million, so decided against it.

Wouldn't be too surprised if Green's career was over. He declined from participating in the bubble for health reasons and I don't know whether he'd be back to risk his family as the current state regarding the virus is probably quite long-term.

At least I don't see it ending until a safe vaccines are brought to people, which might take even a year or so...but what do I know.

CGY shouldn't do that DAL trade btw. Think Honka's done in NHL, but Kylington still have the potential.

I like the Dallas trade I think that is good value, the Rangers trade seems like a lateral move though. I just have 1 question about the Hall signing. Why does everyone assume Hall is going to sign in Calgary? I hear all the time that Hall wants to play for his hometown club or wants to be close to family. His parents live in Kingston Ontario and have since he was 13. Therefore would either Toronto, Montreal or Ottawa not be considered to be his hometown team? I am not saying he wants to play for any of them it was more just a question/statement.

There's been speculation that he'd love to play in Calgary. It's where he was born, played minor hockey and grew up going to the Dome cheering for the Flames. I also read somewhere that he has a home in Calgary...not sure if that's true or not. He's also said in interviews that he'd rather play in a Canadian hockey market where the fan base is more engaged.

On the other side, the Flames apparently made a huge offer for him at the deadline that NJ almost accepted, but in the end they went with the Coyotes offer. If they're willing to give up assets to acquire him, you can bet they will go after him in free agency.

Fair enough, was just wondering why there was so much speculation at him going to Calgary and citing he wanted to be near family when his parents are in Ontario lol.

Interesting. I thought he requested a trade, and then when one didn't come he decided to go back to play in Finland. I figured if another team acquired his rights he'd probably come back, but I really have no idea.

As for the players, I would think their value is relatively close, and styles are also very similar. Kind of a change of scenery thing, the Flames are full up with LHD so trading one that's blocked for right hand D of roughly the same value makes sense somewhat.
