The Red Wings take on Andrew Ladd's contract. Ladd is making for $5 500 000 for 3 more years. As compensation, the Red Wings acquire 2018 1st round pick Oliver Wahlstrom and a future 2nd round pick. Ladd's contract still has a lot of term left so this would be a long-term commitment for the Wings, but they would get some great pieces for their rebuild in return.
The Islanders would relieve themselves from Andrew Ladd's giant contract. The price would be high with giving up a top prospect, but the Islanders would still be able to make this trade without giving up a 1st round pick, or a main player on their current roster.
STL Trade:
The Red Wings acquire a second goalie in Jake Allen. Allen would compete with Bernier for a starting spot on the Red Wings next year. The Red Wings would also receive a 2nd round pick to take on his contract.
The Blues would save over $4 000 000 in cap space. They could easily sign a much cheaper backup goalie in free agency.
Teams will pay to get Bozak and Allen. They have decent worth, just overpaid.
Fair enough. A deal with the Blues might not make sense for the Wings then. I tried a trade for Steen in my last one where the Red Wings would buy him out so he could sign back in St Louis at a cheaper cost but Blues fans didn't like that either.
