I don’t disagree about the defensemen - they could be in the market for a cheap 3rd pairing guy.

Ferland was highly sought after not that long ago. Had some injuries but for the right team he could still be a solid player. It may be just my personal opinion, but either you’re a good or great player and you’re worth a 1st round pick, you’re a decent hockey player and you’re worth a 2nd or you’re a roster player and you’re worth a 3rd or lower. Anything after the 2nd round is a lot of luck and low odds of success so that’s just where I break on draft pick trade values.

No thanks on Ferland, rather have the pick to restock our system and use the cap other ways. I think Toffoli's contract is too much. I personally wouldn't go beyond 5 yr/$5.25M because that still leaves the option to resign Granlund and a cheap 3rd pair D. Thinking someone like Sekera could be a good 3rd D pair to mentor Carrier.

I didn’t think Granlund staying there was an option. He wasn’t very good in Nashville, was he?

The Evolving hockey guys have Toffoli over $6m for 5 years and over $6.5m for 7. Not saying Nashville is obligated to sign him, but it could be a fit.

Granlund and Turris were both problem children in the Laviolette system. For whatever reason, they've both improved under Hynes. Granlund has already scored more goals under Hynes than he did under Lavy in half the games. I think a short term extension makes sense, something like 3-4 years around $4.75-$5.25M. I don't think he gets the same contract value he previously had.

I'm not surprised by those estimates for Toffoli, and agree he could be a good fit. I'd be surprised if the Preds extend beyond that $5-5.5M range though. There's no state income tax, and if we miss on him, we can bring Smith back for a similar role, and slightly cheaper. It'll be interesting to see how the cap is managed because there's limited space, but a few middle 6 spots to fill.
