The AGM roster is a projection for the 2021-22 season, based on a 2020 trade for Domi. Below is a summary of all the moves made for this roster (up until 2021-22), as well as future moves to show how raises for Byram and Mackinnon would be covered.
******** 2020 OFFSEASON ********
- UFA: Nieto, Wilson, Namestnikov, Barberio, and Connauton leave in UFA.
- Resign Burakovsky, Nichuskin, and Jost.
- Resign Zadorov for 1 year (2 years would take him to UFA).
- Trade Graves and Kamenev for Domi.
- Promote Byram and Kaut.
- Draft: Focus on D with highest picks.
Lineup for 2020-21 is:
Landeskog --- Mackinnon --- Rantanen
Domi ------------- Kadri --------- Burakovsky
Nichuskin ---- Compher ------ Donskoi
Calvert -------- Bellemare ----- Kaut (note that Kaut gets extra ice-time on PP2)
O'Connor
Girard ---- Makar
Zadorov - Johnson
Byram ---- Cole
MacDonald (+ Timmins in AHL). Note that keeping Timmins in the AHL another season lowers the value his first RFA contract in 2021.
******** 2021 OFFSEASON ********
- UFA: Calvert, Bellemare, and Cole leave in UFA.
- Resign Landeskog, Makar, Timmins, and Grubauer.
- Promote Newhook, Bowers, and Timmins.
- Sign a 6D in UFA, mainly for PK (eg. Nemeth/Coburn).
Entry Draft Protection (7+3+1):
- Mackinnon, Rantanen, Landeskog, Kadri, Burakovsky, Domi, Jost;
- Makar, Girard, Johnson (NMC). If Timmins isn't exempt then ask Johnson to waive for the ED but keep him on the team (trade a pick if needed).
- Grubauer;
Exposed: Compher, Donskoi, Zadorov, Francouz (pay Seattle to not pick Francouz).
- Pay Seattle to not pick Francouz (they thus choose between Compher/Donskoi/Zadorov).
- If the cap stays flat again in 2021-22, trade whichever one of Zadorov or Compher that doesn't get picked by Seattle (for cap reasons) and replace them with an ELC guy (eg. Helleson/Zhuravlyov, or Kovalenko/O'Connor).
******** 2022 OFFSEASON *********
UFA: Kadri leaves via UFA.
Resign Bowers and Kaut (using money saved from Kadri's $4.5m)
Resign Francouz OR promote Annunen if he is NHL-ready to be an NHL backup.
******** 2023 OFFSEASON ********
Byram's ELC is listed in capfriendly as ending in 2022, but there's a good chance it could slide to 2023. Either way, Johnson gets traded in order to pay Byram (which may be a cap dump requiring a pick being traded as well).
Resign Mackinnon ($13m).
Pay for Mackinnon's raise (from $6.3m to $13m, $6.7m) with these two moves:
- Donskoi ($3.9m) walks in UFA, replaced by ELC saving $3m in cap).
- Burakovsky ($4.875m) or Domi ($5.8m) traded, replaced by ELC (saving $4-5m in cap).
Note that the two moves above assume that there's a flat cap throughout. Should the cap actually rise by at least $4m by 2023 (which is likely) there would be no need to trade anyone at that stage as the rise in cap (and $3m from Donskoi) would pay for Mackinnon's raise.
Habs decline. Graves is too much of a question mark and Kamenev is only one year younger than Domi and he's way less valuable
Would you accept if there was a decent pick added as well? .... And/or if it was another B prospect instead of Kamenev (eg. Helleson, Zhuravlyov, Kovalenko, Ranta, Beaucage, Mutala)?

If Domi get traded the Habs will look at least at the same package that Minnesota received for Zucker! A first round pick and a high end prospect like Timmins or Newhook. You can’t expect to land a young top 6 forward for anything less then that. Even The Devils landed a best return with Coleman then this actual offer

Comparing to Zucker or Coleman is apples and oranges. Their teams wanted futures, whereas in this proposal Domi would be fetching a young cost-controlled top 4 defenseman (i.e. not futures).
