Description
Maybe something like this can work. Been told by Oilers fans that Jones played right a lot. Just included the Florida trade because it seems like a staple in Leafs ACGM's now and it's an easy way to make the cap work. Don't get too hung up on it.

Oilers get some mid 6 scoring on a decent contract. Leafs get a reclamation project that likely won't ever play in an Oilers uniform again and a decent, cheap bottom pair guy. IDK, just bored, could make sense.

I dont know what the obsession with the Florida trade is about. It's a very bad trade for the leafs. Kerfoot is a far better 3c then Wallmark and it isnt particularly close. dermott isnt that much worse then weegar but hes much younger. It's not an even trade for Toronto next season. In the long run it's more of a steal for Florida

Like I said, I just included it because it's an easy way to make the cap work. But I personally don't mind the trade at all. I think other pieces should be added, but as a base I don't hate it for the Leafs. They upgrade at a position of need and do it in a relatively cheap (cap wise) manner. They downgrade from Kerfoot to Wallmark. People will point out that Wallmark only had 'x' points less than Kerfoot this year, but there is no argument who the better player is. The Leafs do save cap here though, and Keefe doesn't role his lines like Babcock did, so I don't see this downgrade as disastrous. I really like Weegar, so I probably can't be overly reasonable here.

Ah, oh well. It was just a thought. I was talking to somebody else a while ago and they seemed to think he was expendable, so I just gave something a shot.

I just think there are ways to make it work without making to many down grades on the roster. Personally I think a 22 man roster is just fine. The marlies are always close by for at least half the season and the odds of the leafs suffering multiple injuries at once on the road is extremely low. I dont think mikheyev, malgin or puljujarvi will make that much when extended so all these little things add up over time. I love engvall but he could probably be replaced by Barabanov or Robertson.

I'm really high on dermotts potential so I might not be the right guy to talk to either but if the trade was just dermott for weegar it wouldnt be the end of the world but inside I would be devastated.
