Description
This roster is the prime example of what the leafs should go for in the off season.

First I upgraded the defense and instead of going for guys like Pitrangelo, Krug, etc I went for realistic trades in which both sides get equal value. The islanders give us Mayfield in exchange for buying out Boychuck (chose him as Ladd is probs getting bought out by the Islanders or vice versa). In return Toronto gives the islanders a goalie prospect to play for their AHL or ECHL affiliate and a 4th round pick. The second trade is weegar, wallmark, and a low third, for Kerfoot, Dermott and a Mid second. Trade is fair for both sides as florida gets a good defenseman and a sturdy 3c and Toronto gets a cheap 3c and a partner for rielly. Also traded engvall to the Blackhawks for Kamf and a fifth. Overall a good value trade for both sides but it will still be sad to see engvall go.

Next off was trading Johnsson and some decent prospects to Ottawa for picks. Johnsson can fit well into Ottawa's roster and that contract would be favourable in Ottawa's rebuild. As for the prospects, each brings their own unique set of skills which ottawa could use in its rebuild. For instance Bracco can help Ottawa's powerplay improve due to him being a powerplay specialist.

Finally I decided to bring back Spezza (veteran presence and amazing overall), Mikeyv (really impressed in his first year despite the injury shortening his debut), Gautier (filler for 4th Center), and Aberg (filler for LW or RW should injury occur). For new comers decided to bring Troy Brower who is a solid 4th line LW and him playing with spezza could bring amazing results, with the leafs being the front runners for barbanov decided to add him in, and finally in my point of view the most important acquisition, Alexei Krasikov. With Freddies contract ending in 2021 Toronto needs to make a tough decision, resign him for (7-8.5mill) or replace him with a solid younger goalie. Now Scott and Woll are candidates but they just aint ready yet and I am not sure they will be ready by the time freddie is up either. Alexei Krasikov on the other hand is a prime candidate as he has young, tall, and his numbers are pretty solid. The leafs can do what the rangers did with shesterkin, place him with the marlies, let him play and see how he does then if he does well bring him up to see how he plays in some NHL games. If it works out toronto has a cheaper alternative to resigning freddie to a new contract and can let him go.

Overall, this is the best option for the leafs as not only is the defense improved, the offense should stay around the same, and goal-tending could be fixed long term without costing to much allowing the leafs to have more money for next season.

I actually think this is very well done overall. Only thing is Mayfield will definitely cost more if the CBO thing happens.

As someone who generally tends to not like making trades of young players, I really don't hate that FLA trade. I would be worried about Weegar coming back down to earth (and I still really believe in Dermott working out) but overall that seems about as fair a trade as you could get on an AGM. Maybe swap which way the picks are going (Dermott ~= Weegar but Kerfy> Wallmark).

You also shouldn't need to add Boychuk to the Mayfield trade. The value is pretty close as is (maybe upgrade the pick to a 3rd).

The OTT and CHI trades are pretty bad tho ngl.

he may but the islanders can replace him, giving a 4th and a goalie prospect is a good fit especially since the leafs are taking boychuck to CBO. I could add a 5th but I see the current deal as being fair since Mayfield is just compensation for the leafs taking on Boychuck. Overall will probs make a tweak to this trade but will have to ponder it a bit just to make sure its fair to add more

The ottawa trade was for moving johnsson and some depth out. Ottawa has a tendancy to do trades like this with the leafs and aquiring Johnsson should help speed up their rebuild. As for the rest all are depth pieces and Ottawa has an amazing habit of unwanted or depth players into prime players on their team. Bracco can help the PP, Kihulme can be a third pairing defenseman, and Malgin can be a prime depth piece for them. As for the engvall trade I saw it from someone else and actually alot of leaf fans liked it. Sure engvall could improve next season but getting someone who is just as good as him and a 5th round pick is a steal for us so sure losing engvall would suck but for that return Dubas would do that in a heartbeat.

As for the Florida trade i know kerfoot is better than wallmark but the main thing was saving cap. Wallmark can come cheaper and could still be a valuable 3c. Dermott for weegar was fair for both sides and the picks. Toronto may be overpaying in that department but to get a RD in weegar is worth the risk especially since we get a third out of it which is good for out pick depth.

1) The Johnsson trade is bad for the Leafs. Mango is worth much more than that alone. Those depth players are far from unwanted. Malgin is Petan 2.0 (lets hope he works out) and Kivihalme is the Marlies top pairing Dman who cold be a full time Leaf within two years (3rd pair guy for TOR but still he is good is my point). Bracco I have no idea what is going on with him. He is at a low point value wise now, so I think I'd wait and see if he rebounds, then move him mid season. The point I am trying to make here is that these guys do still have value to the Leafs on their roster and I wouldn't be looking to move them for nothing.

2) I just don't see the value in losing a very good PK player for a guy who is at best a horizontal move and adding a 5th round pick. That screams "making a trade just to make a trade."
