Description
Calgary trade - seen a few Flames fans say Monahan could be moved and if they don't extend Brodie, they'll need a RHD to play in their top 4. Minnesota obviously needs a center, so trade could make sense for both teams. Contract length is the same and cap hit is comparable too so neither team will need to perform any cap gymnastics to make it work financially.

NYR trade gives the Wild a young goalie to compete with Kahkonen. NYR supposedly wanted a young forward for Georgiev, so Greenway makes sense given David Quinn's history with him. Could be Donato or Sturm instead I guess. It’s risky to go into the season with 2 young goalies, but I think Kahkonen is ready. He’s leading the AHL in wins and shutouts this season. In the 10 games he played in the AHL before his brief call up to the NHL in December, he had a 2.441 GAA with a .9073 save percent and 2 shutouts. In the 22 games he’s played since, he’s improved to a 1.899 GAA with a .929 save percent and 5 shutouts. Hopefully letting him build his confidence in Iowa will pay off. Georgiev should perform better in Minnesota behind a better defense.

Dubnyk is listed as being buried but in reality, they'd probably just let him go home and not report to Iowa. Stalock can be stashed in the AHL in case they need him. They can either sign 2 more depth players on 1 year deals, or give some of the AHL players a try. With 5 pending RFAs and Brodin needing a new deal after this season, they'll need to save cap space for the 2021-2022 season. Hopefully Guerin puts his phone away on July 1st.

Expansion draft protect list at the end of the year:
7 Forwards
Parise
Zuccarello
Monahan
Fiala
Erickson Ek
Kunin
Donato or Sturm depending on who has a better season. I don't think Kaprizov will be eligible.

3 Defense
Suter
Spurgeon
Soucy since Brodin will be an UFA

Goalie
Kahkonen or Georgiev, whoever has the better year.

Weird seeing a Wild team with no Koivu.

Yeah, I was wondering what they'd do. Going with Lindholm and Backlund seems like a big step back, not something I'd do if I were running the Flames.

Well we can move Lindy to center but then we once again have a massive hole at RW. this is 1 step forward and 2 steps back

Yeah, definitely sounds like there would need to be other moves made if Calgary were to make this trade. I could see them making some changes though if they miss the playoffs or lose in round 1 again. The Pacific is wide open this year. What moves do you think they'd make if they wanted to tweak their roster this summer?

I think a head coach is the first thing, as well as a powerplay coach. As our PP is horrendous to watch considering the talent on it. I think if we miss playoffs there will be a roster move but not if we make it (even with a 1st round exit). I think they will try the team under a new HC that has playoff experience like Gallant or Laviolette. If the team continues to struggle by december or if Backlund starts to regress then I could see some roster changes. Hanifin maybe, Kylington, Bennett. I doubt we touch the main core right now but i could see us moving a defense for 2C. Danault, Domi and the Stromes interest me. If we don't resign Gus I think we will try and get a PP specialist like DeAngelo or Risto as well.
