The Jets are currently in the 2nd wildcard position in the west with 63pts. It's super tight with CGY, ARI, NSH and MIN all very close behind them. If Chevy wants playoffs to happen this year, a hockey deal needs to be made now. If the Jets wait until the TDL they could very easily have fallen out of the wildcard race. Their remaining games before the 2020 TDL are: NYR, SJS, CHI, LAK, OTT, PHI, BUF. Not an extremely difficult schedule but still tough. I could see them easily going 3-4, but they could also easily go 5-2. Chevy needs to make a splash now to increase the likely hood of playoffs becoming a reality. I'm not sure what CGY, NSH, MIN and ARI schedules look like but all it takes is the jets to lose 2 or 3 in a row and they fall way behind.

I'd love to see a hockey deal made. Maurice has made it clear that they're not in the market for rentals. He isn't the GM but it seems like he calls a lot of the shots so I'll take his word for it. Surprisingly, the Jets biggest hole is currently 2LD. They have established that Morrissey and Pionk will play on the 1st pairing for 25+ mins a night. They have a very very below average 2nd pairing. Once they get fully healthy having poolman back will help but he's not a 2nd pairing guy, he's a 5-6 dman. IMO samberg gets signed as soon as his NCAA season is done and gets a stint in the NHL. I think he sticks and most likely plays 3LD but could even slot in at 2LD.

IMO, the Jets have a number of options they could entertain. They could buy low on a guy like Ghost who is younger and has term. They could take a shot at a manitoba boy in severson, or they could make a move for a big guy like Edmunson and get him to extend.

I'd love to see the Jets go for Severson. He's a manitoba boy, he can play the L and R side and has a nice contract. I have no idea what the value would look like on this trade but I'm open for feedback :)
