Description
Was listening to TSN radio and they were just discussing, but I heard that a reason that could POSSIBLY hold back Romanov from coming over to the Habs next year is due to the lack of Russians in the Habs roster. Romanov is legit the only Russian in the system (ok there's one more... Khisamutdinov (6th rd pick in 2019), but you know, not anyone worth mentioning...

Signing Kovalchuk me be a small way of helping with this, but seems really unlikely that Kovalchuk stays with MTL past this season (or even past this trade deadline).

Trade details:
With the retention I put on Tatar, this puts his cap hit at $3mil for this year AND NEXT YEAR. Any more retention and another asset would need to be added by STL imo. (a mid rd pick?)

Barbashev is a solid 24 year old 3rd liner, can play Center and Wing.

Alexandrov's value may be bumped up a bit due to his performance at the WJ, but this would be a kid that could grow at the same time as Romanov in the organization.

Blues reject that (and your math is off, Tatar's cap hit would be $3.5M). We're not trading Barby, probably not trading any more F prospects for a while and we're definitely not taking on more cap until we get Petro signed.

fair enough on the trade. My thinking was getting Tatar would be a big improvement than Bozak on the 2nd line. Then slide Bozak to the 3rd line.

and my math is fine lol Habs are only paying $4.8mil of Tatar's cap hit, VGK is still retaining 500k. So with the retention I'm proposing, Tatar's cap hit with STL would be $3mil, and considering Barbashev make almost $1.5mil aav. STL is only adding $1.5mil cap hit, value seems more than fair imo when adding a LW that's on pace for 70pts.

On a side note. Would STL be interested in giving up a 1st to get rid of Steen? (similar to TOR giving up a 1st to move Marleau)

1- Bozak is third line. smile

2- Oh, that's right. I forgot about Vegas' retention, my bad. Still, Barby's value is measured by so much more than points and he's still young enough to develop more offense. He has the skill for it.

Highly doubtful. Steen still has use on the 4th line/PK and he only has one more year after this one. The Blues won't trade their high round 2020 picks unless they get overwhelmed, I think.
