Description
-This team is still a top tier, Cup winning team with the injection of some great young talent like Samsonov, McMichael, Protas, Alexeyev, and Fehervary.

-This doesn't take into account the expansion draft. I assume Oshie, Eller, Panik, Kempny, or Jensen will be taken.

-The scratches aren't truly who will be scratched, it's just to show the great depth they have. I imagine they will have to choose between Kempny or Jensen. Kempny is better but is left handed. They'll also probably want to make room for guys like Fjallby and Leason.

-The only real issue with this roster is the amount of LHD. It isn't the biggest deal, but it's preferable to have dmen play on their strong hand. Maybe they make a trade to switch a lefty for a righty.

-There's a TON of cap space here. There will be even more when the roster is cut down to 23 and one of Jensen or Kempny are moved. And even more after the expansion draft. I imagine they'll have close to $10M in space assuming the cap keeps going up.

-With all the talent and cap space the future is looking bright and the window will remain open for a good while.

Definitely still a contender. Pretty cool to see how Caps have had such long sustained success.

If it wasn't for that terrible Adam Oates year they'd have a nice playoff streak going.

PHI is also about to go on a nice run for a good awhile. So much young talent coming up or already there.

Idk for Philly it depends on Myers, Farabee's, and Frost's development mainly, aside from Hart.

McMichael is tearing the roof off juniors, a man amongst boys, it looks like he's going to be a legit top 6 playmaker in a couple of years for the Caps.

It'll be really interesting to see what kind of a contract Ovechkin gets, and he'll probably make the market on that. There just aren't a ton of comparables out there for a 35 year old that puts up around 1.00PPG every year with about 50 goals. Unless he just severely declines next year, I could see him getting north of $9mm still, especially on a short-term deal. I look at Pavelski's contract this year, $7mm at essentially the same age, but he's at ~0.78PPG career vs. Ovi's 1.11PPG. Same with Daniel Sedin and Patrick Marleau for their contracts at ages 33-34.

Not disagreeing with your proposed necessarily, just saying it'll be really interesting to see where he lands. He'd probably be on an 8 x $10 ish right now if they'd had the term limit in place when he signed his current contract.
